Peer Mentors
Having a Peer Mentor in class helped me accomplish the course objectives.
"It allowed the student's someone to talk to in more detail about their personal and academic issues outside of class, which allowed me a more clear faculty role. In this type of course it is tremendously helpful." (Lua)
My Peer Mentor was a sounding board for ideas for class.
"She provided a student perspective on many assignments." (Dan)
Was this a significant experience for you? Why?
"This was a very significant experience for me because when I was a freshman I really wanted someone around to show me how the college life really works. After hearing many faculty and family tell me about time management and how to be involved I believed that only a college student who was currently enrolled could help me with real college dilemmas. So as a peer mentor this semester I was that person to help guide someone, to tell them what not to do, to show them how time management works even though some still didn't do any better, but I can say that I tried. This experience taught me a lot about myself as a person in which I want to become. It was significant to me to know that I can be a person who can assist those in need of anything." (Melissa)
"This experience is something that I will remember for a long time. Not only was being a peer mentor a great learning experience for my career as a therapist, but it is something I will take with me for all aspects of my life. It was an amazing feeling to be able to help freshman see their potential in both school and in their life. I was able to bond with each of my students and be there for them whenever they needed me. Not many people can say they were able to work with wonderful professors and teacher's assistants as well as amazing students. If I could do this job all over again, I truly would. This program opened many doors for me as well as my students. It was also great that my Mastering Student Success teacher recommended me for this opportunity." (Hara)
"This a significant experience because it allowed me to help other individuals and it gave me work experience in which I will keep with me." (Lisa)
On a scale of 1 (bad) to 5 (excellent), how would you rank your experience?
"A five because it really helped me learn about myself help others and I truly am sad that my time is over, because I will truly miss this incredible experience." (Melissa)
