Receiving Financial Aid

Repeat Course Policy for Financial Aid

Effective July 1, 2011, due to changes in federal regulations, a student may receive federal financial aid ( Title IV funds) for a repeated course only once if the course was previously passed (credit has been received).

Example 1

Tania takes MATH 0101 in the fall 2010 semester at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. She receives a D grade and 3 credits for the course. She decides to retake the course in the winter 2011 semester in order to improve her grade and GPA. However, for her repeat class she receives an F grade and no credits. In the fall 2011, she decides to retake the course for a third time. The chart below displays her financial aid eligibility.

Important

The Office of Financial Assistance does not determine if a student may repeat a class, only whether a student may be eligible for financial aid for a repeat class. For more information on your academic program's policy regarding repeat coursework, contact your academic advisor. In addition, every repeated course affects Satisfactory Academic Progress calculations; all repeated courses are counted as attempted credits.
