Graduate Assistantship Positions

The Division of Student Affairs anticipates Graduate Assistantship openings for the 2008-2009 academic year. The positions may be in the areas of Student Union operations and programming; Greek Life; Residential Life (assistant area coordinators and staff training and development); Housing (off-campus coordinator); Career Development (employer relations, campus relations and career consulting); Campus Recreation (fitness programs, operations, intramural sports and special events), Student Leadership and Civic Engagement (leadership development, student volunteer programs, student organizations, international students, and multicultural programs), Student Engagement (all campus special events), and First Year Experience and Transitional Programs (new student orientation). Applicants must possess a bachelor’s/master’s degree and matriculate into a graduate program at NSU. Preference will be given to those candidates that are accepted and enrolled in the Master of Science in College Student Affairs in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences http://shss.nova.edu/Academic_Programs/MastersPrograms/MSCSA.htm. In order to be considered for a position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Submit a letter of application/cover letter outlining your experience and any specific areas of expertise you have that are relevant to the work of student affairs. If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program at NSU indicate the name of the program. If not currently enrolled at NSU, please include the name of the graduate program at NSU in which you plan to seek enrollment.
  2. Submit a current resume.
  3. Candidates must be accepted and enrolled in a graduate/doctoral program at NSU when the GA appointment begins.

The GA positions require 25-30 hours per week and range from 9-12 month renewable appointments. Graduate students classified as international students should confer with the NSU Office of International Students to determine their eligibility for a GA position. Appointments begin July 28, 2008.

Two GA packages are available:

  • GA I Package (Fort Lauderdale campus only) – annual stipend of $8,000, tuition remission of up to $8,000 a year, a single apartment in a university residence hall, and a meal plan of $2,000.
  • GA II Package (Fort Lauderdale campus) – annual stipend of $12,000, tuition remission of up to $12,000 a year, and a meal plan of $1,000.
