Subgroup Information: Addictions

Background

The addiction subgroups primary purpose is to help the community understand as well as gain better recourses for the substance abuse community.  Unfortunately, substance abuse has become rampant in our society. The addictions subgroup is working on helping people help themselves. Finding better ways to cope with the issues related to substance abuse in the community. Helping families re-unite without enabling the substance abuser.

Mission

The Quality of Life Subgroup will create and support collaborative systems of NSU faculty, students, and administrators, CCB, and Broward’s Community providers and leaders in order to improve the quality of life in Broward County. We will work on helping the community gain a better understanding of the substance abuse issues.

Strategies
  1. We will utilize other agencies for support and understanding of the large problem at hand.
  2. We will plan an event in recover month, the month of September for the community.
  3. We will offer support through counseling and other services to help in making a change.
  4. We will educate the community of substance abuse issues.

Goals – First Steps

Identify 3-5 action items with dates the subgroup will undertake to address the QOL issue.

  1. Contacting other agencies April 1, 2004
  2. Picking a date for the event.  April 15, 2004
  3. Designing the event.  May 28, 2004
  4. Working with marketing for advertising. June 18, 2004
  5. Getting it known to the public. Continue planning the event. July 16, 2004
  6. March from the courthouse to the Bubbier Park.  September 18, 2004
