NSU Hosts Career Fair for People with Disabilities Oct 30 Those with disabilities who are seeking employment will have a variety of companies to choose from at the 5th annual Connections Career Fair at NSU. The event on Oct. 30 will feature up to 15 companies. “This one-of-a-kind job fair caters exclusively to people with disabilities,” said Howard Watson, executive director of the Broward Business Leadership Network, which is running the event with NSU, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, United Way of Broward County, and Work Force One. Some employers at the job fair will include NSU, Ability Medical Supply, Broward County Schools, Florida Power and Light, Holy Cross Hospital, Jobing.com, Sun Trust Bank, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Workforce One, Manpower, among others. Research shows that people with disabilities make excellent employees, although over 50% of people with disabilities are unemployed. The Connections Career Fair will offer a wealth of information for employers as well as job opportunities for people with disabilities. The event’s keynote speaker is Susanne Homant, President and CEO of the Able Trust. She will be announcing the “Look at my Abilities” Campaign. The “Look at my Ability” is a statewide initiative that has two purposes; to raise awareness of the value of hiring people with disabilities; and to bring awareness to and educate the public about the Florida Business Leadership Network. Connections Career Fair will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at NSU’s main campus in Ft. Lauderdale-Davie inside the Carl DeSantis Building. The actual job fair will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, please contact Howard Watson at 954-722-6400 or hwatson@browardbln.org.
