Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia Visits NSU

Slovakian Deputy Prime Minister Dusan Caplovic and other high-ranking government officials from the Central European country visited Nova Southeastern University on Oct. 2. The other members of the Slovakian contingent included Peter Burian, ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the U.S.; Katarina Haskova, director of the office of the deputy prime minister; Stefan Komjaty, advisor to the deputy prime minister; Vit Koziak, 2nd secretary of the Slovak Embassy to the U.S.; and interpreter Katarina Cockrell.

At NSU, the deputy prime minister met with NSU President Ray Ferrero Jr., J.D., and listened to presentations from NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences and NSU’s Office of Research and Technology Transfer.

While in South Florida, Caplovic and his contingent also visited the The Scripps Research Institute at Jupiter, Florida Atlantic University, the Slovak Garden, Northwood University, among other places. The group also met with Anthony J. Silvagni, D.O., Pharm.D, M.S., FACOFP dist., dean of NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM); Anthony DeNapoli, Ed.D., Fischler School of Education and Human Services dean of International Affairs; Lawrence Jacobson, D.O., COM vice dean and professor; and Gary Margules, Sc.D., NSU vice president for Research and Technology Transfer.

Robert Petrik, Slovak Honorary Consul Emeritus for Florida; and Cecilia Rokusek, Ed.D., Slovak Honorary Consul for Florida and COM executive director for education, planning and research, facilitated the visit.
