Hugh W. Brown Jr., a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University's H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, was named one of 11 “Rising Stars” in the October 2009 issue of Florida Trend magazine. The magazine recognized “Florida’s young professionals that are making their presence felt in government, non-profits and business.”

In August, Brown was one of 14 students from Florida colleges or universities selected to the fifth class of the Gubernatorial Fellows Program. Students in the program work in the Executive Office of the Governor or in Governor's agencies in Tallahassee, gaining firsthand experience into the operations of state government. Students were selected based on a competitive application process, which included the ability to show strong leadership, written and oral communication skills, community activism, and a desire to serve the people of Florida.

Brown, 30, began the Master of Business Administration in Finance program at NSU earlier this year and is taking classes at NSU's Student Educational Center in Tampa. He is taking distance learning courses while in Tallahassee.
