University School Art Teacher Named "Art Educator of the Year" by Florida Art Association Teachers at University School of NSU have long been lauded by parents and peers as the behind-the-scenes superstars helping the children they educate achieve great things. And if receiving recognition for their dedication and service to their craft is one of the best rewards a teacher can get, then its no wonder that University School's own Celeste Pierson has been named "Higher Education Art Educator of the Year" by the Florida Art Education Association. Pierson, M.F.A., teaches art to the Upper and Middle School students at University School. For 22 years, she was also an art professor at New World School of the Arts in Miami, which is a Florida state school for creative and performing arts, and a cooperative venture of the University of Florida, Miami Dade College and the Dade County Public School System. Her artwork has won awards in many national juried exhibits and is in the collections of various institutions. Pierson has also worked for the College Board/ETS in the Advanced Placement Studio Art Program as a reader, table leader and exam leader, and has more recently brought her knowledge, dedication and love of the arts to University School's students.
