Medical School Professor Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

James Howell, M.D., M.P.H., professor of public health and chair of the Department of Rural Medicine at NSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the South Florida Business Journal's Excellence in Health Care Awards ceremony held October 22 at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale. Howell was honored for his more than 40 years of exemplary service to the public health arena in areas ranging from executive decision-making and policy development to strategic business planning and legislative relations. According to the South Florida Business Journal, "His work in financial and personnel management, health care facility regulation, program development and direction, and quality assurance and improvement provide Howell the essential background for any public health leader."
