Fischler School Awards $10,000 Scholarship to Broward's Art Teacher of the Year

NSU's Fischler School of Education and Human Services is proud to have recently awarded a $10,000 scholarship to Susan Anderson, Broward County's 2009 Arts Teacher of the Year.

Anderson, a visual arts teacher at J.P. Taravella High School, was given the award at the Broward County Cultural Division’s 24th annual Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year Award ceremony which was held on Oct. 21. The evening also included an artwork exhibition and performances by both students and teachers from J.P. Taravella High School.

Anderson has taught at J.P. Taravella for more than 15 years and has worked as a summer instructor with art programs at both the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, NSU, and the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Her most recent art subjects are creative photography and color photography/exploratory.

The Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year Award, created by the Cultural Division in 1985, annually recognizes a most outstanding arts teacher in Broward County schools. In addition to the ceremony and reception at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the winner receives a cash stipend, a scholarship to NSU, a Tiffany crystal apple, an inscribed brick on Riverwalk, and an assortment of gifts from cultural organizations and businesses.
