Huizenga School Dean Honored at Appreciation Event
Randolph A. Pohlman, Ph.D., who is leaving his position as dean of NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at the end of the month, was honored for his 14 years of service at a tribute held on June 4, 2009. Colleagues and other guests filled the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center to show their appreciation to Pohlman, who will return to the Huizenga School faculty in 2010 after a six-month sabbatical.
Speakers at the event included Paul Sallarulo, a member of the Huizenga School’s Board of Governors and NSU’s Board of Trustees; Tim McCartney, Ph.D., professor of management; Bill Grayson, president of Victory Living Programs; and Ruchel Louis, CEO and founder of Successful Images. Longtime local TV personality Tony Segreto read a proclamation from the Town of Davie declaring June 4 as “Randolph Pohlman Appreciation Day.” Segreto joined Preston Jones, D.B.A., executive associate dean of academic affairs at the Huizenga School, in presenting Pohlman with several gifts, including a framed painting of Pohlman and his wife, Jeanne, that will be displayed in the Carl DeSantis building and a guitar painted by artist Romero Britto. Joanne Ferchland-Parella, NSU’s vice president of institutional advancement, served as emcee for the event. During Pohlman’s tenure, the Huizenga School has grown from 1,300 students to more than 6,000 and boasts the largest Master of Business Administration program in Florida. Pohlman also directed the school’s first major capital campaign that led to the construction of the Carl DeSantis Building, a five-story, 261,000-square-foot facility that opened as home to the Huizenga School in 2004. “Dr. Pohlman has been instrumental in the growth and success of the Huizenga School,” said NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr. “Thanks to his leadership, our faculty is able to provide business students the practical skills and knowledge they need to begin or advance a career or even start their own business. We are sorry to lose Randy as dean but look forward to having him returning to teach our students.” In addition to serving as dean, Pohlman has written two books: Understanding the Bottom Line and Value Driven Management. He is also active in the South Florida community, serving as a trustee and member of the Board of Governors for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. “I have had a wonderful run as dean,” said Pohlman. “I am very proud of the progress the Huizenga School has made in the past 14 years and give credit to our tremendous faculty and staff, our great boards, our very generous donors, and the visionary leadership from NSU’s administration.”
