Library’s Ferro Interactive Arts Series Culminates with Mark Twain Dance Performance

Library’s Ferro Interactive Arts Series Culminates

The Alvin Sherman Library’s free 2008-2009 Ferro Fine Art Series culminated last month with a performance by Florida's Momentum Dance Company, called Bringing Literature to Life. It featured an interpretation of Mark Twain's short story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

The story was told through Mark Twain's prose, bluegrass and country music, colorful costumes and high-jumping dance movement. The performance was followed by a movement workshop for the children in the audience, who also made dancing frog puppet to take home.

The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County was a part of the Alvin Sherman Library’s Ferro Fine Arts Series, made possible by the Charles P. Ferro Foundation. The series has featured several free innovative programs during the 2008-2009 season including lyric opera, stunning live flamenco, vibrant ballet and pop-up art. The series was designed specifically to give children and families a fun, interactive introduction to the fine and performing arts.
