Assistant Director of NSU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Receives Award


UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) Assistant Director Marlene Sotelo-Bumberg was recently honored by the Autism Society of America’s Broward County Chapter for her commitment to the education and support of students with autism.

Sotelo-Bumberg received a Certificate of Merit, after being nominated by Edelyne Dorsainval, the mother of a student, for being an outstanding person working in the field of autism. Sotelo-Bumberg’s award was presented to her on April 2 during World Autism Day.

The UM-NSU autism center is currently servicing 4,000 families in Florida’s southernmost counties of Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe. It provides free family support, outreach, and educational support services to children and adults of all levels of intellectual functioning who have autism and autistic-like disabilities.
