Farquhar College Professor Presents Research

David Kilroy, Ph.D., associate professor in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Humanities, presented his research at Nova Southeastern University on April 9, 2009, and in Charleston, S.C., on March 16, 2009, at a James Hoban Society event.

Kilroy presented “South Florida and The WPA Oral History Project” as part of the “Soul of a People: Writing Florida’s History” exhibition, which is on display at the Alvin Sherman Library through May 10. The exhibit is based on the Works Progress Administration’s (WPA) Federal Writers Project during the Great Depression.

In March, Kilroy attended and presented his research at a meeting of the James Hoban Society titled “Kilkenny to Carolina: The Emigrant Experience of a Single Area of Ireland and Its Charleston Connections.” Hoban is the late architect best known for designing the White House. At the meeting, Kilroy presented his paper, “From Callan to the Caribbean and the Carolinas: Exploring the Transatlantic Implications of Cromwell’s invasion of Ireland.”

Kilroy, who teaches classes at the college on topics such as the Great Depression and Irish history, applies his professional development in research and presentations to enhance course curricula at NSU.
