Alvin Sherman Library Staff Publishes in Florida Libraries

Carrie Gits, assistant director of reference at the Alvin Sherman Library, recently published an article for the Spring 2008 issue of Florida Libraries.  The article, titled “Second-in-Command: Creating Leadership and Management Opportunities through Organizational Structures” discusses the unique leadership opportunities assistant department head positions offer professional librarians in academic libraries. 

The article suggests that if academic libraries in Florida want to retain and cultivate future library leaders, positions providing formal leadership and mentoring experiences need to be considered.
