Athletics Notes and Upcoming Calendar
- Nova Southeastern University junior women's tennis player Ulia Talalenko has been named a First Team All-Sunshine State Conference honoree.
- The NSU women's tennis team received a bid to play in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships, marking the fourth consecutive year that the Sharks have earned an NCAA invitation.
- The No. 3 nationally ranked NSU women's golf team has been selected as the No. 1 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
- The NSU men’s golf team has been selected to play in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/South Central Super Regional.
- The NSU men’s and women’s track team concluded their 2008 season at the NCAA DII Regional Championships at Morehouse College in Atlanta. The NSU women placed sixth out of 10 teams in the region, while the men placed seventh out of 14 teams in the region.
- Jeff Palmer captured the 10,000-meter title in a time of 32:41.74, qualifying him for the USATF Jr. National Meet. Eskender Abdalla (second in 10,000 meters), Robert Maughan (third in the 3,000-meter Steeple Chase), Joe Pena (fifth in the 1,500 meters), Agustin Rey (fifth in the 10,000 meters) and Palmer were named to the NCAA DII Men’s Track & Field All-South South Region team for their top-five individual finishes.
- Tara Haddock (third place in 800 meters) and Alice Henley (fourth place in 5,000 meters and fourth place in 10,000 meters) were named to the NCAA DII Women’s Track & Field All-South South Region team for their performances.
Upcoming NSU Athletics Calendar
Baseball
Ranked No. 7 in the South Region, the NSU baseball team has fashioned another 30-win season. The Sharks can claim the first-ever Sunshine State Conference Baseball Championship in program history with a sweep over Saint Leo University this week. NSU is within reach of either an automatic bid or at-large selection to the NCAA Regional tourney for the first time ever.
Women’s Tennis
The No. 13 nationally ranked Sharks tennis team will participate in the 2008 NCAA South Regional Tennis Tournament. The Sharks will face Florida Southern College in Boca Raton, Fla. on Thursday, May, at 2 p.m.
Women’s Golf
The No. 3 nationally ranked NSU women’s golf team is the top seed in the 2008 NCAA Division II women’s golf regional competition that will be contested May 5-7 at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Men’s Golf
The No. 5 nationally ranked NSU men's golf team will play in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/South Central Super Regional May 5-7 at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Women’s Rowing
The No. 4 nationally ranked Sharks will race in the Dad Vail Championships in Philadelphia on May 9. The Sharks will then await an invitation to their fifth straight NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship, which will be held from May 30 to June 1 in Sacramento, Calif.
