Deborah Ann Mulligan, MD, FAAP, FACEP, director of the Institute for Child Health Policy, was the 2008 recipient of the Arnold Melnick Award for Child Advocacy.

The award was first given in 2004 as a means of honoring outstanding leaders in the field of pediatrics. Over the past five years, several individuals who have made great strides for both future pediatricians and for the children of South Florida have been recognized.

The award's name is in honor of Dr. Melnick’s long service in the field of osteopathic pediatrics.  Besides his activity in ACOP, including serving as president, he was the founding dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. He retired a few years ago as executive vice chancellor and provost of the Health Professions Division of Nova Southeastern University.
