Carrie Meek Recognizes Educational Leaders with Fischler School
Tri-county community leaders and educators were joined by students from Parkway Middle School of the Arts and Dillard High School at the Fourth Annual Carrie P. Meek Outstanding Education Leadership Awards on Feb. 28. The event was held at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on NSU’s main campus. Keynote speaker Bobby Jones, Ph.D., inspired the audience with resonant words articulating practical advice and proven testimonials of success. Award recipients and speakers Gespie Metellus, director of the Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, and Ramon Dawkins, principal of Sunland Park Elementary School addressed the general theme of empowerment and achievement. Both honorees graciously accepted their awards with remarks expressing gratitude and hope for African-American unity. The evening affair, hosted by the Black Heritage Council of the Fischler School of Education and Human Services, was established in honor of former representative Carrie P. Meek’s work as a lifelong educator and public servant.
