Fuzhen Zhang, Ph.D., professor of mathematics in the Division of Math, Science, and Technology in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, was recently named a Jianzhi Professor by Shanghai University in China. This honorable professorship is for internationally renowned scholars. Offering a great number of programs and degrees at all levels, Shanghai University is the largest university in Shanghai and one of the largest in China.

Zhang joined the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences faculty upon graduating with a Ph.D. in mathematics from University of California-Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 1993. Since then, he has published more than 40 research papers in peer-reviewed mathematical journals and authored three books: Linear Algebra, Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996; Matrix Theory, Springer-Verlag, 1999; and The Schur Complement and Its Applications, Editor, Springer, 2005. He has been associate editor of the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS) Bulletin IMAGE, reviewer for Mathematical Review of the American Mathematical Society (AMS), and reviewer for NSF.
