Eighth Annual Humanitarian of the Year Awards
Humanitarianism and service to community were key components at this year’s Humanitarian of the Year Awards held Feb. 19 at the Fort Lauderdale Grande Hotel. Honored were Susie and Alan Levan for their outstanding contributions to the community. A highlight of the evening was a video presentation of the Center for Psychological Studies (CPS) professors and their many contributions which have impacted the nation. Focus areas included school crisis; police stress; disaster training and prevention; children orphaned by HIV/AIDS; researched centered on battered women; child abuse; and trauma research. “Our faculty, staff, students and alumni were honored to recognize two great humanitarians – Alan and Susie Levan. It was also a privilege to share the expertise of our faculty whose research, training and service activities at NSU are geared to assisting those recovering from trauma,”, said Karen Grosby, M.Ed., and dean of CPS. “The event reflected the great energy that is unleashed when university and community partners, who have answered a call to service, work together for the benefit of those in need.”
