GSCIS at New Learning Technologies 2008

The winter conference of the Society for Applied Learning Technology (SALT) was held in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 20-22. Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences alumnus David Metcalf (Ph.D., information systems, 1997), chief learning officer and researcher at The Institute for Simulation & Training, University of Central Florida, was the keynote speaker. He introduced a standing-room-only audience to the innovative mobile applications under development in his lab.

GSCIS Professor John Scigliano, Ed.D., regaled listeners as he described payoffs, spinoffs, and ripoffs in using virtual worlds in online learning. Professor Trudy Abramson, Ed.D., chaired the training session and presented with Randy Mayberry of the Air Education & Training Command, U.S. Air Force, who is currently pursuing his doctorate in computing technology in education. Mayberry’s area of investigation, upon which the presentation was based, is the integration of augmented reality into hands-on training for air force personnel.

Abramson is a director of SALT and executive editor of Journal of Instruction Delivery Systems, a SALT publication currently in its 22nd year.
