FSEHS Organizes Public Forum with Bob Butterworth at NSU
On Feb. 26, Nova Southeastern University served as the host site for the first quarterly symposium of the Council on Homelessness led by Department of Children and Families Secretary Bob Butterworth. The day’s agenda was led by the opening remarks of NSU President Ray Ferrero Jr., J.D., and H. Wells Singleton, Ph.D., educational provost and university dean of the Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS). The symposium, organized by Kimberly Durham, Psy.D., executive dean for administration and human services at FSEHS, provided an open forum for the community that highlighted the department’s priorities for preventing homelessness in 2008. It also served as an opportunity for FSEHS to showcase the many social service projects in the community administered through the Quality of Life Council and FSEHS. During the Council’s open forum, various individuals spoke about their experiences in helping the homeless or the experience of becoming homeless themselves. Local advocacy group leaders were also present including Jack Moss, district administrator of Broward’s DCF, Frances Esposito representing the Broward Partnership for Homeless, Janet Riley, president of Broward Coalition to End Homelessness, and Elizabeth Wynter of United Way of Broward.
