Baseball Story Time with the Sharks

Damon Marino reads to the childern

Members of the NSU baseball team were special storytime guests at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center on Jan. 29.  Public Library Services librarians Rebecca Hickman and Meagan Albright performed the hilarious puppet play “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”  The baseball players helped the children with their craft projects and later signed autographs.  Approximately 100 attendees enjoyed the event.

The NSU baseball players read aloud some of their favorite children’s books, including Sharks pitchers Jose Velazquez (La Oruga Muy Hambrienta by Eric Carle) and Nick Carris (Playing Right Field by Willy Welch).  All-American first-baseman Bryan Cook impressed the children by reciting the preamble to the Constitution. Baseball Story Time with the Sharks was in honor of the National Endowment of the Humanities We the People Bookshelf Grant which was awarded to Librarians Beth Blankley and Rebecca Hickman to celebrate the theme of the pursuit of happiness.

The all-ages bilingual story time program, Cuentos y Canciones, takes place every Tuesday evening from 7-7:45 p.m. Story Time Fun for ages 3-5 takes place every Wednesday from 10:30-11:15 a.m.  For information about upcoming free programs at the Alvin Sherman Library, visit http://www.nova.edu/library/serv/pls/programs.html or call 954-262-5477.
