SHSS Faculty Speaks at McKnight Conference

Michèle Rice, Ph.D.

Michèle Rice, Ph.D., and assistant professor of conflict resolution and community relations in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, was featured last November as a presenter on “The Mechanics of Writing for Publication & Dissertations” at the 23rd Annual McKnight Fellows Meeting, sponsored by the Florida Education Fund in Tampa.  The theme was on “Mastering the Scholar’s craft:  Training, Research, Presentation, and Publication.”

Rice’s presentation focused on the research process, the literature review, plagiarism issues, and the writing skills necessary to begin the dissertation processes.  The conference hosted over 150 Ph.D. matriculating fellows, doctoral candidates and graduates from various academic fields, e.g. the humanities, engineering, math, and natural, social and behavioral sciences.

Since its inception in 1984, the mission of the Florida Education Fund has been to provide fellowships to deserving minority students in fields where they have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education institutions throughout the state.  Rice’s presentation was well received as participants noted that she provided valuable insights into the sometimes difficult process of conceptualizing, researching and writing the dissertation.
