Members at the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), part of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at NSU, were recently treated to a special lecture by Fulbright scholar and doctoral student Ronald Allan Mabunga on the subject of “Armed Conflicts in the Philippines: A Transcend Perspective.”

Mabunga is currently a full-time residential student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) at NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). He was awarded a graduate assistantship by Jean-Mathieu M. Essis, Ph.D., former interim chair and current assistant professor at DCAR, for the 2007–2008 academic year.

Sam E. Baroni, Ph.D., assistant professor at DCAR and a LLI guest lecturer, was instrumental in recommending Mabunga as a potential speaker to Edward Aqua, D.Eng., director of the Lifelong Learning Institute. According to Aqua, including Ronald Mabunga’s work in the LLI curriculum helps fulfill the LLI’s mission to not only offer diverse presentations from NSU faculty and students alike, but to also bring LLI members together with the rest of the university community.

“Inviting students like Ronald Mabunga enables us to help doctoral candidates to satisfy their degree requirement for making more formal oral presentations on their topics of study,” said Aqua.
