Women's Basketball Team Tabbed Third-Most Improved in NCAA Division II
The NSU women's basketball team, which accomplished numerous firsts on its way to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance to cap the 2007-08 campaign, has been named the third-most improved women's basketball team in NCAA Division II. The list of the 34 most improved teams in Division II was compiled and published by NCAA Statistics. After finishing 2006-07 with a 9-19 overall record, NSU, led by 10th-year head coach Marilyn Rule, compiled a 24-7 record en route to its first-ever Sunshine State Conference regular season and tournament championships. The improvement, according to NCAA Statistics, was equivalent to 13.5 games. The Sharks fell a half a game shy of Francis Marion and Miles, both improving by 14 games. Francis Marion posted a 6-22 record in 2006-07 before amassing a 21-9 record in 2007-08 while Miles was 3-25 in 2006-07 before a 17-11 finish in 2007-08. To determine games improved, which include the postseason, add the difference in victories between the two seasons to the difference in losses, then divide by two.
