Ernest Talarico to Discuss Partnership between NSU, Farquhar College and IUN – May 1

The Division of Math, Science, and Technology in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will sponsor a guest lecture by Ernest F. Talarico, Jr., Ph.D., assistant professor of anatomy and cell biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine–Northwest (IUN). Talarico will discuss “NSU, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, and the Indiana University School of Medicine-Northwest: The Partnership Continues” on Thursday, May 1, from 12:00–1 p.m. in room 123 of the Parker Building.

Talarico will specifically describe IUN’s Human Cadaver Prosection Program, which prepares cadavers for medical education and research, and the Intercampus Undergraduate Student Externship Program, a joint venture between NSU, IUN, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  IUN’s Human Cadaver Prosection Program is the only one of its kind in the United States. Each year, individuals bequeath their bodies to medical education and basic science/clinical research. These cadaver donors must be prosected for use by student doctors in human gross anatomy classes. The program recruits individuals interested in medical school and/or clinical/basic sciences, training them to work with human cadavers and professional dissection. In addition, this summer will mark the launch of the Intercampus Undergraduate Student Externship Program, which promotes self-development, truth, and power via basic science research with clinical and real-life applications.

This lecture is open to the NSU community and the public. For more information about Talrico’s visit, contact Mark Jaffe, D.P.M., assistant professor in the Division of Math, Science, and Technology, at (954) 262-8083 or mjaffe@nova.edu.
