Volleyball Off to Best Start in Program History

After nine consecutive wins and a program-best 14-4 start to the season, including a 4-0 start in Sunshine State Conference play, the Nova Southeastern University volleyball program has begun to open some eyes around the country. In a conference that features two top-10 nationally ranked programs, including the defending national champions, and five teams that participated in the NCAA tournament a year ago, the Sharks have created their own niche for success by playing aggressively.

"It all starts from the opening serve," said NSU head coach Steve Wilcosky. "We have made a point to apply pressure right from the beginning. Our team has taken a take-no-prisoners attitude, which means we will be on the attack from the first to the last point of the match."

The statistics back up the Sharks' style of play, as NSU has posted 52 more service aces and average 1.7 more kills per game than their competition so far this season.

"The whole team is contributing," commented Wilcosky. "With our style of play we don't have a standout player, but what we have is multiple options and a more effective, solid team. Everyone has found a way to contribute. If someone is having a down game hitting, they find a way to contribute with their blocking, passing or serving. Each player is holding themselves accountable in their role of the team's success."
