#4 Ranked NSU Invited to Compete at 2007 NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Championships

The NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Committee recently announced the selection of the teams that will compete in the 2007 NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Championships, to be held May 25-27 at the Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The #4 ranked Nova Southeastern University women’s rowing team was selected to compete for the team championship, as both the Sharks Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 crews qualified.  It marks the record fourth consecutive invitation that NSU has received, as the Sharks have qualified for nationals in each of their first four years of competition.

The team championship is comprised of four teams, and each team is required to field one boat of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers.  The other three teams selected were:  Dowling University, UC San Diego, and defending national champions Western Washington University.

In addition, two at-large Eights from institutions not represented in the team competition were selected.  The two schools selected were fellow Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Tech and Seattle Pacific University.

Ranked first in the South Region, NSU recently captured the programs first ever Sunshine State Conference Women's Rowing Championship as the Sharks Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 crews each claimed first place finishes in their respective races.

The Sharks also garnered the 2007 Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Varsity 8+ state championship at the 58th Annual SIRA Championships.

In 2005-06, the Sharks became the only crew ever to reach the NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing National Championships in each of their first three seasons of competition.  NSU finished third at NCAA Nationals in Princeton, N.J. with the Varsity 8 finishing third and the Varsity 4 finishing fourth overall.

In 2004-05, NSU became the first SSC institution to ever finish as high as third in the nation, at the 2005 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships in Sacramento, CA.  The NSU Varsity 8 finished 2nd overall to national champions Western Washington and the Varsity 4 placed 4th for a final overall finish of 3rd in the nation.

In the Sharks inaugural 2003-04 season, the NSU Varsity 8 earned an invitation to the 2004 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships in Sacramento, CA and were victorious in the V8+ Petite final over SSC rivals Barry University for a 5th place national finish.
