FSEHS Alumni Recognized as Heavy Hitters in Education by South Florida Business Journal
FSEHS Meline Kevorkian, associate dean of Master's Programs/Program Professor at  Fischler School of Education and Human Service and Kim Durham, Psy.D., executive dean for Administration and Human Services at FSEHS (far right) present Joe Underwood, Ed.D., with a plaque for being selected as a Heavy Hitter in Education by the South Florida Business Journal recently.

When Fischler School of Education and Human Services alum Joseph Underwood assumed responsibility for Miami Senior High School's television production program in 1988, it was just a class. Since then, the program developed and led by Underwood, has grown into an Arts Related Technologies for Entertainment Careers (ARTEC) Academy, which educates 150 students a year in the growing field of entertainment technologies. ARTEC lets students produce live newscasts, film documentaries and participate in entertainment law classes.

Underwood's teaching efforts have been recognized by USA Today, Toyota, Wal-Mart and the Walt Disney Co. This year, he was a finalist for the National Teachers Hall of Fame. Most recently he was recognized as one of several Heavy Hitters in Education by the South Florida.
