Baseball Story Time with the Sharks

More than 100 children enjoyed story time at the Alvin Sherman Library when members of the NSU Baseball Team were special guests for “Baseball Story Time with the Sharks.”

The players read several books to the eager audience, including Donde viven los monstruos by Maurice Sendak, Hit the Ball, Duck by Jez Alborough, and Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig.  The athletes also helped the children with craft projects and later signed autographs.

Adding to the fun were Public Library Services librarians Rebecca Hickman, Beth Blankley, Meagan Albright, and Elaine Taylor who performed a hilarious puppet play, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Baseball Story Time with the Sharks was in honor of the National Endowment of the Humanities We the People Bookshelf Grant, which was awarded to Librarians Beth Blankley and Rebecca Hickman to celebrate the theme of becoming an American.

The all-ages bilingual story time program, Cuentos y Canciones, takes place every Tuesday evening from 7-7:45 p.m. Story Time Fun for ages 3-5 takes place every Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m.  For information about upcoming free programs at the Alvin Sherman Library check the NSU website http://www.nova.edu/library/serv/pls/programs.html or call 954-262-5477.
