NSU’s “Keepers of the Dream” Art Exhibition Opens
The opening reception of “Keepers of the Dream” art exhibition was held last week in the Alvin Sherman Library. NSU has partnered with the Oscar Thomas Foundation to present a collection of works from local high school students which recognizes the contributions of the African Diaspora to American history, politics, spirituality, education, sports and artistic expression. The student pieces were inspired by the works of renowned portrait artist and muralist Oscar Thomas, and will be on display in the gallery of the Alvin Sherman Library through March 8. Don Rosenblum, Ph. D., dean of Farquhar College of Arts & Sciences, awarded scholarships to the Honorable Mention recipients as well as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the competition. The students also received cash scholarships from the Oscar Thomas Foundation. “Keepers of the Dream” is part of the university’s African Presence 2007 Fourth Annual Art Exhibition.
