Law Center Hosts Winter Graduation Ceremony
The Shepard Broad Law Center hosted its winter graduation ceremony for 29 graduates and their families on Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on NSU’s main campus. Carl Monk, executive director of the Association of American Law Schools, served as the commencement speaker. The trustees of Nova Southeastern University awarded Monk an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. A unique aspect of the graduation ceremony is that each student can choose to be “hooded” by a family member or faculty member who has had significant influence on his/her academic career. The hooding ceremony was followed by a reception in the Law Center atrium. Among the graduates was Annette Esliker-Kabia, a 44-year-old single mother of four whose graduation fulfilled a promise made to her dying husband four years ago. Her achievement was profiled in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and can be read here: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-flblawgrad1214sbdec14,0,5197162.story.
