Fulbright Students Studying at SHSS
Hassan Khannenje, a Fulbright student from Kenya is studying conflict analysis & resolution at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Nairobi. In 2003, he enrolled into the prestigious graduate Institute of Diplomacy & International Studies (IDIS), University of Nairobi, which was interrupted in late 2004 by a Fulbright fellowship offer that Hassan received to study in the U. S. In the fall of 2004, he was admitted to the Graduate Center for Social & Public Policy at Duquesne University. In the fall of 2006, he joined the Ph.D. program in the Dept. of Conflict Analysis & Resolution (DCAR) at SHSS. He has worked with groups and organizations that advocate and promote pacific approaches to dispute resolution in Kenya. Hassan wrote extensively on U.N. reform, Peacekeeping and Human rights in conflict ridden regions from multiple perspectives with a proven ability to maximize alternatives. He has organized workshops; chaired Community Based Organizations and directed programs for the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims. He also volunteered in the refugee resettlement program through University of Pittsburgh’s Medical Center which in liaison with Catholic Charities helps refugees from Eastern Europe and Africa. He is currently serving as a Graduate Assistant with DCAR.
