Nova Southeastern University’s Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) celebrated March’s National Athletic Training Month with events throughout February and March, designed to promote quality healthcare and wellness. A highlight from their full agenda included a study abroad trip to Italy from March 3–11.

Patricia McGinn, Ph.D., and Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D., assistant professors in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Division of Math, Science, and Technology, led athletic training students on the trip. The group studied the work of Greek physician Galen, considered the father of sports medicine, in treating Roman gladiators. Students visited Rome’s Colosseum, Ludus Magnus, Museo di Sotia della Medicina (Museum of Medicine), Istituto Universitario di Scienze Motorie (University of Movement Science), and the oldest working hospital in Italy, Hospital of Santo Spirito, founded in 1198. They also traveled to Pompeii, Naples, and Florence.
