2nd Annual Fore the Kids: Saving Lives Charity Golf Classic Raises $50,000

On May 15, a full field of golfers including community leaders, sports celebrities and media gathered at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club to participate in the Institute for Child Health Policy (ICHP) at NSU’s Second Annual Fore the Kids: Saving Lives Charity Golf Classic.

In the face of a torrential downpour, pelting hail, lightening and cold winds gusting up to 60 MPH the spirited response from the community was truly remarkable.  The tournament and associated interdisciplinary education summit raised significant community awareness on nutrition and fitness www.nova.edu/webforms/forekids/cme.html. Though the tournament was cut short due to the inclement weather, $50,000 was raised representing a four-fold increase from last year’s donations.

Special thanks for the numerous gifts and pledges from corporate sponsors and individuals. Thanks to their generosity, ICUP will be able to continue to identify and evaluate the effectiveness and capacity of simple, successful programs designed to improve the health of friends, family and neighbors through the Broward County Nutrition and Fitness Project. www.browardchd.org/Services/Nutrition/Nutrition.htm.

The ICHP at NSU works with community and national leaders to improve children’s healthcare through common sense policy making and practical programs that get real help to the families who need it.
