Fischler School Shows Commitment to Ensuring Safety in Area Schools School safety is everyone’s business, and NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services recently showed its commitment to promoting safety in schools by sponsoring a critical incident drill at McArthur High School. NSU’s Fischler School partnered with Hollywood police, Broward County public schools, Pembroke Pines Fire-Rescue and other local law enforcement agencies, to stage a mock scenario for the purpose of assessing the efficiency and manner in which students and staff members address an emergency situation. The pretend scenario involved a man gaining access to the school grounds and then holding 25 students hostage with guns and a bomb. The event attracted positive local and national media attention. The event will be shared with other Broward County Public Schools as a successful model for learning purposes. Additionally, as the sponsor of the event, NSU’s Fischler School is recognizing the contribution of those who help keep our schools safe by offering a 15% program discount to all law enforcement officers, firefighters, McArthur High School personnel, staff, faculty, and administrators who participated in the critical incident drill. The discount will be applied to those who attend one of the school’s graduate or undergraduate education programs. The 15% program discount is contingent upon all individuals beginning their studies with the Fischler School in the winter 2007 term. NSU’s Fischler School would also like to extend a one time $1,000 scholarship to each of the 25 high school students who participated in the Critical Incident Drill to attend one of the bachelor degree programs offered at the Fischler School.
