NSU Announces Addition of Outdoor Track - Track Team Becomes 15th NCAA Sanctioned SportThe opening of the University Center brings more good news for NSU Sharks. Director of Athletics Mike Mominey recently announced that outdoor track will become the 15th sanctioned NCAA sport at NSU. “I am pleased with the development of our Athletic Programs,” stated NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr. “I am especially pleased with the competitiveness of our programs while maintaining excellence among our student-athletes in the classroom.” NSU’s current Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach Bruce McCrea will lead the Sharks Outdoor Track Team into their first official season of competition in the spring of 2007. The squad will consist of both a men’s and women’s team and will participate in running events in the first year. “I am proud to announce that Nova Southeastern will offer Outdoor Track as a competitive sport next spring,” said Mominey. “Coach McCrea has resurrected our Cross Country program to being one of the top in the region and I am fully confident that he will do the same with the Sharks Outdoor Track Team.” NSU competes in the NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference. With nine women’s (cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, golf, rowing, tennis, softball and outdoor track) and six men’s (cross country, soccer, basketball, baseball, golf and outdoor track) sports offered to students, NSU has been competitive in the region and nationally since joining the NCAA in 2002.
