"New" RecPlex Offers Instructional Programs

The instructional program offerings at the University Center’s NEW RecPlex provide for diverse opportunities for NSU community members and their families to challenge themselves in a variety of recreational areas. Many of the skills developed will be ones that will provide fun and enjoyment that will last for a lifetime.

Programs will provide both age and skill appropriate offerings at times that are convenient to the rigors of academics, family, and the office. Many classes will have attendance minimums and maximums to ensure optimal learning and enjoyment.

Class registration is going on now for our first fall series. 

Offerings include:

  • Martial Arts - Self-Discipline, Chemistry, and Tranquility

    The RecPlex offers a variety of martial art forms to meet all of your needs. Attendees will learn principles of self-defense, develop mind-body chemistry, improve their physical fitness, and achieve mental tranquility through the exploration of the culture, discipline, and rituals of traditional and ancient Martial Arts.

    Karate - Monday and Wednesday Nights; 7 p.m., Aug. 28 - Oct. 18
    Chuong Nu - Tuesday and Thursday Nights; 7 p.m., Aug. 29 - Oct. 19

    Cost:
    Students and RecPlex Members - $160.00; Non-Members - $210.00
  • Tennis - Toss, Serve, ACE!
    Tennis is yet another recreational activity that can last a lifetime!  Learn basic fundamental tennis skills such as stance, grip, forehand, backhand, and preparing to hit. Get an opportunity to practice your skills with specific instruction on refining your stroke. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

    All classes take place at the RecPlex. Participants must provide their own racquets and one can of tennis balls.

    Adult Intermediate - Saturdays; 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21
    Adult Advanced - Saturdays; 2:00 p.m. to 2:55 p.m., Sept. 2 - Oct. 21

    Children Ages 5 to 8 - Mondays & Thursdays; 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Aug. 28 - Oct. 19
    Children Ages 5 to 8 - Saturdays; 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21
    Children Ages 9 to 11 - Mondays & Thursdays; 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Aug. 28 - Oct. 19

  • Dance - Get off the couch and DANCE!

    We offer a variety of classes that are designed for dancers of all ages and skill levels. Offerings will include tap, jazz, ballet, modern, and hip hop. Whether you have limited dancing experience or you are looking to perfect your steps, our dance classes will help you to relieve stress, ease tension, and tone muscle all while having a great time.

    All classes take place at the RecPlex.

    Jazz - Ages 6 to 7 - Saturdays; 11:00 a.m. to 11:55 a.m.
    Jazz - Ages 8 to 10 - Saturdays; 12:00 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.
    Jazz - Ages 11 to 16 - Saturdays; 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m.
    Hip Hop – Ages 5 to 7 - Saturdays; 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m.
    Hip Hop – Ages 8 to 10 - Saturdays; 2:00 p.m. to 2:55 p.m.
    Hip Hop – Ages 11 to 16 - Saturdays; 3:00 p.m. to 3:55 a.m.

    Cost:
    Students and RecPlex Members - $150.00; Non-Members - $195.00

  • Gymnastics - Shake, Tumble, and Roll...

    This program is designed for children and young adults with varying skill levels. Participants will progress through fundamental gymnastics skills, including plies, toe jumps, one leg balance, forward roll, headstand, front walkover, cartwheel, round-off, backward roll, backbend/walkover, and front handspring. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Gymnastics is a fun and rewarding way to help children develop advanced motor skills and self-discipline that will last a lifetime.

    Children Ages 3 to 4 - Wednesdays; 3:30 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. Aug. 30 - Oct. 18
    Children Ages 5 to 8 - Wednesdays; 4:15 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. Aug. 30 - Oct. 18
    Children Ages 5 to 8 - Saturdays; 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21
    Children Ages 9 to 11 - Wednesdays; 5:00 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. Aug. 30 to Oct. 18
    Children Ages 9 to 11 - Saturdays; 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21
    Children Ages 12 to 16 - Saturdays; 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21

    Students and Adults - Saturdays; 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. Sept. 2 - Oct. 21
