Nova Southeastern University Welcomes Legal Researcher
Erin Brockovich
Ft. Lauderdale (Davie), Fla. - The public is invited to join the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences in welcoming famed legal researcher Erin Brockovich to Nova Southeastern University. This event, part of the college’s Distinguished Speaker Series, takes place on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the Miniaci Performing Arts Center on NSU’s main campus. Admission is free.
A movie about her first great legal case made her famous around the world. Julia Roberts won an Oscar for portraying her as a spunky, sassy legal assistant with endless determination in Erin Brockovich, the 2000 movie.
As a file clerk in the law firm of Masry and Vititoe, Brockovich helped build the biggest direct action lawsuit of its kind against a giant utility company. Her commitment to justice, public health, and environmental protection led to the largest legal settlement in U.S. history, with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company paying out $333 million in damages to more than 600 Hinkley residents.
Tickets for the general public are available starting Thursday, October 25. There will be guaranteed seating held for ticket holders until 6:30 p.m. If spacing permits, walk-ins will be welcome to attend the event after 6:45 p.m.
