FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—The Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University will host its Winter Hooding Ceremony for 60 graduates and their families on Saturday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m., at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center , 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr., Boulevard, on NSU’s main campus.
A unique aspect of the Hooding Ceremony is
that each student can choose to be “hooded” by a family member or faculty member who has had significant influence on his/her academic career.
Two of the graduates who will participate in
the Hooding Ceremony include:
- Renier Diaz De La Portilla of Miami, a Florida Republican State
House member
- Estelle Lesleigh Varner, of Pleasant City in West Palm Beach, is a single
mother of three who grew up in the inner city. A family tragedy prompted her
to become an advocate for low-income families who need legal assistance. She
is receiving the Rising Star Award, which is presented by the Broward County
Women Lawyer’s Association to the student who exemplifies the ideals of an individual
who can strike the perfect balance between the practice of law, civic involvement
and familial relationships - one who is committed to the community, family priorities,
women’s
issues, the legal profession, school involvement and/or extracurricular activities.
The Hooding Ceremony will be followed by a champagne and cake reception
in the Law Center atrium. For more information about the Shepard
Broad Law Center Hooding Ceremony, please contact Linda Lahey, (954)
