FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Steve Wozniak, the man who helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple's first personal computer, the Apple I, will deliver a public address at Nova Southeastern University on Nov. 14.
A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for the past three decades, Wozniak will speak before a gathering of the region's technical community at 6 p.m. in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd.
Wozniak will talk about the early days of Apple and his continued influence in the computing industry. The event will also feature information booths manned by all of the tech usergroups in South Florida.
He will be available for press interviews at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at a place to be determined
With business partner Steve Jobs, Wozniak introduced the world to Apple's first commercial model, the Apple II. By 1980, Apple had gone public, Jobs and Wozniak were millionaires, and “The Woz” (as Wozniak is known) had become a symbol of “free-wheeling nerd enterprise and ingenuity.” He was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States in 1985, the highest honor bestowed America 's leading innovators.
In 2000, Wozniak was inducted
into the Inventors Hall of Fame and was awarded the
prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy
and Employment for “single-handedly designing the first personal computer and for then redirecting his lifelong passion for mathematics and electronics toward lighting the fires of excitement for education in grade school students and their teachers.”
