New Book Co-authored by NSU Professor Lynn Lashbrook Offers Solutions for Sports Fan Behavior

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— The Character Institute has announced the release of a new book entitled, "Fan Etiquette: How did Burning Desire to Win Become the Desire to Burn," co-authored by Nova Southeastern University professor Lynn Lashbrook, director of the online master's in education with specialization in sports management program at NSU's Fischler Graduate School of Education and Human Services.

The book, penned by Lashbrook along with Dr. Will Keim (Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and NCAA recognized life skills speaker) and Dr. Eileen Sullivan (Vice President of Student Development at Loras College--who provides an institutional response to the fan behavior crisis), addresses fan behavior and crowd management, and is the most comprehensive treatment of the topic to date and provides specific solutions to the growing menace of out-of-control individual fan and crowd behavior.

"Fan Etiquette" tells of personal experiences of fan violence in collegiate sports and provides immediate steps that must be taken to insure the future of intercollegiate competition. "It's time we face the fact that we have a crisis on our hands that must be addressed," Lashbrook said. "We must empower the fan to be part of the solution. This book could not come at a more pertinent time with the escalating number of incidents in sports. Our book is about values, it is about ethics, and it is about translating character into action on the field and in the stands. We call on fans, the NCAA, law enforcement authorities, city governments, students, alumni, and boosters to work together and we give them specific suggestions."

NSU's online sports management specialization is designed to teach the student the latest trends in the world of sports with an emphasis on program management, career strategies, and job placement in the world of sports. In addition to foundations of education, the course offerings cover collegiate and professional sports, as well as providing exclusive courses on sports agents and athletic academic advising. Courses include International Sports Management, Issues and Strategies/College, Issues and Strategies/Pro, Professional Athlete Management, Academic Advising for Athletes, and Ethics and Sports.

The program has been under the direction of Lashbrook since its inception last year. Lashbrook has been working and teaching in sports management for over 30 years and has demonstrated a lifelong passion for helping students strategize through internships to fulfill their career goals in the world of sports. Lashbrook has served at the collegiate level as an athletic academic advisor and athletic director. At the professional level, he has been a National Football League sports agent for the past 10 years and created the first-ever online sports management company (SportsManagementWorldwide) with a mission to educate future sports agents.

"Fan Etiquette,"with its forward provided by former NBA star Steve Kerr, will be available beginning November 7 from The Character Institute by calling (513) 229-3626. Cost is $19.95. For more information, contact Lashbrook at 877-491-0908 or lynn@smwwinc.com, or Keim at 800-848-3897.
