NSU to Host Renouned Historian And Author
R.B. Bernstein to Speak about Thomas Jefferson

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—American history buffs are in for a real treat. In honor of the new history major that will be offered at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in January 2004, the Division of Humanities of NSU’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, will present Pulitzer Prize nominated historian R.B. Bernstein, at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 23, 2003. The event is free and open to the public.

Bernstein, who is the author of new biography, Thomas Jefferson, will speak on, “Thomas Jefferson and the Crises of the Republic,” on NSU’s main campus, in the room 3018 of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

Bernstein, an adjunct professor of law at New York Law School, was educated at Amherst College and the Harvard Law School. He has written, edited, or co-edited 18 books on American legal and constitutional history, including Are We to Be a Nation? The Making of the Constitution, (Harvard U. Pr., 1987), and Amending America: If We Love the Constitution So Much, Why Do We Keep Trying to Change It? (Times Books, 1993), both of which were nominated for the Pulitzer, Bancroft, and Parkman Prizes. He is now working on a history of the First Congress as an experiment in government, a book entitled, Constitutional Change on Trial,”and The American Revolution: A Student Companion.

In addition, Bernstein is director of online operations at Heights Books, Inc., in Brooklyn, New York, where he has lived since 1981.
