NSU'S Institute For Children Services To Host "A Day For Children"
Free Event Celebrates Children’s Health
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— The Institute for Children Services at
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will once again host “A Day
for Children,” on Sunday, October 26, from 12:00 noon – 4:00
p.m. The event will be held on the grounds in front of the Alvin Sherman
Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero,
Jr., Boulevard in Davie. It’s a fun-filled day for families,
and it’s “FREE OF CHARGE”.
In addition to free screenings, snacks and drinks, the event will feature
a variety of activities including a bounce house, popular characters,
arts and crafts, games, live entertainment, a Halloween costume competition
and surprise guests.
According to Robert Oller, D.O., chief executive officer for NSU clinical
operations, A Day for Children,” is NSU’s way of giving
back to the community. The emphasis is to provide children with free
screening service they otherwise would not be able to access. It is
also a way of keeping our community informed of the number of clinical
services NSU provides for children.” Our very first event, which
was held in December 2002, was a huge success with over 1000 attendees
and our hope is to keep increasing those numbers.
“ This is our ongoing effort to bring together services for selected
populations within the community,” Dr. Oller said. “We
have ten colleges and programs that provide clinical services through
15 clinics. Many have dedicated services specifically for children,
including primary care and specialty care services.”
There are programs and services offered through the Colleges of Osteopathic
Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Allied Health and Nursing,
the Center for Psychological Studies, Mailman Segal Institute for Early
Childhood Studies, Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information
Technology Center, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences,
and the departments of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Faculty and students from NSU’s Institute for Children Services
will be present to screen the children and discuss available services
with their parents.
