DePiano Appointed University Provost and V.P. of Academic Affairs at Nova Southeastern University
Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. - Frank DePiano, Ph.D., has been appointed university provost and vice president for academic affairs at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). The announcement was made today by NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr.
In the newly established position of university provost, DePiano will plan and coordinate initiatives related to the academic development of NSU. As such, the deans of NSU’s 16 colleges and schools report to him. This appointment, according to Ferrero, reflects the university’s prioritization of development of its academic programs to national preeminence.
DePiano has served at NSU for 28 years, most recently in the position of vice president for academic affairs, a position he has held since 2004. Prior to that, DePiano served as dean of NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies. His other roles at NSU have included chief executive officer of the NSU Community Mental Health Center and associate dean of the College of Dental Medicine. He also is the chair of the University Council of Deans.
“Dr. DePiano has served in many capacities at NSU and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the provost position,” said Ferrero. “NSU will be well served by his leadership as we implement and enhance the many academic initiatives that are underway.”
DePiano has also held a number of national leadership positions, including serving on the American Psychological Association’s Board of Educational Affairs’ Executive Committee, as president of the Society of Psychological Hypnosis, and as chair of numerous accreditation site visits and national education task forces.
DePiano received his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1980.
