NSU Wellness Committee to Host
2nd Annual Shark Shuffle 5k Run and Walk
Ft. Lauderdale-Davie, FL. –On Sunday, September 23rd, the NSU Wellness Committee will host the Second Annual Shark Shuffle 5K Run and Walk. The race starts promptly at 7:30am. Children will have an opportunity to participate on their own fun-run course beginning at 8:30am. The awards ceremony begins at 8:45am.
Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida and Collegiate Risk Management, the event is designed to promote health and wellness among the NSU community and to raise grant money for NSU students participating either as runners or walkers.
“Last year we had more than 400 people participate. We are expecting twice that many this year”, said Douglas Flemons, Ph.D., Race Director and Director of Student Counseling.
As an added incentive for avid runners, the course (3.1 miles) is USATF certified. Additionally, the Shark Shuffle route is accessible to individuals with disabilities.
NSU students, alumni, employees and their immediate family members may register to participate in the Shark Shuffle for $12.00. The community at large is invited to participate and may pre-register for $20.00. On-site registration is $25.00 and begins at 6:00am on race day. Free food, drinks are available to all participants, and the first 500 to register are guaranteed a free t-shirt.
Registration can be completed online at www.rec.nova.edu/sharkshuffle.html , by mail, or in person at the RecPlex, located in the University Center on NSU’s main campus. Registration applications may also be obtained at local running stores.
