NSU Health Care Centers Offer Low-Cost
Back-to-School Physicals

Fort Lauderdale, FL ---- Nova Southeastern University’s Health Care Centers will offer parents and schoolchildren an opportunity beginning this Saturday to make sure they are healthy before school starts.

The centers will offer Back-to-School physicals at a flat fee of $25, which will include a medical checkup, eye exam, dental exam, and much more. You won’t find a better bargain anywhere else.

This fee is a small fraction of what parents would normally have to pay for such quality preventative health care.

You don’t need health insurance to take advantage of this golden opportunity. The physicals will begin on Saturday, August 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at NSU’s Sanford L. Ziff Health Care Center. It’s located at the corner of University Drive and SW 30th Street.

You must be there on Saturday in order to receive the full comprehensive physical (medical, dental, optometry, etc.). But medical physicals will be available throughout August.

Children from pre-school through the 12th grade will receive screenings from all medical disciplines, including dental, optometry, speech and audiology, and physical and occupational therapy, in order to ensure that their minds and bodies are ready for the upcoming school year.

The cost of the entire physical is a flat fee of $25, and immunizations are offered for an additional $15. However, parents and guardians are required to bring current immunization records for their children and appointments are required.

Because a child’s health can change from year to year, it’s important to receive a complete examination on an annual basis. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends an annual check-up for children from ages two to 18.

Routine physicals allow pediatricians to assess your child’s growth and development; check weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, hearing and other physical, emotional or social health concerns; and test for conditions such as scoliosis, diabetes, anemia and urological problems.

The annual visit is also a good time to update immunizations. Most children receive their basic immunizations before age two, but tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), diphtheria, polio, chicken pox, meningococcus, whooping cough all require booster shots in later years.

“Many illnesses that can develop into chronic diseases can be detected and prevented by having regular, early childhood health screenings,” said Edward Packer, D.O., FAAP, FACOP, Chairman of Pediatrics at NSU. “The annual physical is an opportunity to optimize well being and health practices in order for a child to have a successful school year.”

To schedule an appointment for your child’s back-to-school physical, please call (954) NSU-CARE or (954) 678-2273.
