NSU’s Farquhar College of Arts & Sciences Welcomes Displaced Students for Classes Starting October 19

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE , FL – Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is accepting undergraduate students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Students may still register for second fall term classes, which begin October 19.

“We’d like to do everything we can to assist students whose education has been interrupted by the devastation in the Gulf States. We understand the hardship they have endured and our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible,” said Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of NSU’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. “ Our eight week terms allows affected students who have already missed enrollment deadlines at other institutions to attend school this fall semester without missing any class assignments.”

Undergraduate students currently registered at affected institutions in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama will be provided an expedited transfer admissions review. Students who have already paid tuition at their home institution will have their NSU tuition waived.

Other NSU campus offices are assisting students to find local accommodations and navigate the financial aid process. Students accepted will be fully matriculated at NSU during the time they are separated from their home institution, allowing them to remain eligible for financial aid assistance.

Some of NSU’s graduate programs have already accommodated several students displaced by Hurricane Katrina, including the Shepard Broad Law Center which recently admitted five students from the Gulf region.

Located on a 300-acre campus in Fort Lauderdale-Davie, NSU has more than 25,000 students and is the largest independent institution of higher education in Florida. NSU awards associate's, bachelor's, master's, educational specialist, doctoral, and first-professional degrees in a wide range of fields.

NSU is committed to helping students displaced by Hurricane Katrina get back into the classroom as soon as possible. Students should contact the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, to discuss all NSU programs, courses, and admissions and financial aid processes, at 800-338-4723 ext. 28408 or (954) 262-8408, or email donr@nsu.nova.edu.
