Incoming First Year Class at NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center Participates In Beach Cleanup As Part Of Their Orientation Program

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- Over 100 incoming first year students at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center will participate in a beach cleanup at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park in Hollywood on Friday - August 13 at 10:30 a.m. The cleanup is part of this year’s Law School Orientation Program, and participation automatically enrolls students in NSU Law’s Pro Bono Honor Program.

The Shepard Broad Law Center Pro Bono Honor Program recognizes students who work pro bono for the public interest while enrolled in law school. The goals of the Pro Bono Honor Program are to educate students in the role of public service attorneys, make students aware of critically unmet needs in their communities, assist agencies in trying to meet these needs, and build a tradition of pro bono work that will accompany students into their professional careers.

Sharon Booth, Director of the Public Interest Law Center, remarked, “It is never too early to get our students involved in public interest law and community service. Therefore, we stress public service even before the first day of class. It becomes a mindset that students take with them long after completing their J.D. degree. The Law Center annually sponsors a Public Interest Law Day and invites public interest and government agencies to campus to educate NSU law students about opportunities with non-profit, judicial, and government organizations. Additionally, we hold a public interest auction yearly to provide NSU law students with stipends and public interest fellowships.”

Integrating a solid foundation in traditional legal subjects and a pioneering clinical program that sets it apart from other law schools, the Shepard Broad Law Center offers an innovative 21st century curriculum for today’s talented student. The school offers full full-time day and part-time evening programs, as well as an online master's degree in Health Law. Additionally, the Shepard Broad Law Center offers a wide variety of international and comparative learning opportunities including courses, clinical opportunities, and law programs abroad. International programs and courses at the NSU Shepard Broad Law Center are ABA-approved.
